Collective dynamics and rheology of confined phoretic suspensions

چکیده
Similarly to their biological counterparts, suspensions of chemically-active autophoretic swimmers exhibit nontrivial dynamics involving self-organization processes as a result inter-particle interactions. Using kinetic model for dilute suspension autochemotactic Janus particles, we analyse the effect confined pressure-driven flow on these collective behaviours and impact chemotactic aggregation effective viscosity active fluid. Four dynamic regimes are identified when increasing strength imposed flow, each associated with different behaviour resulting from competition flow- chemically-induced reorientation together constraints confinement. Interestingly, observe that pusher (resp. puller) hydrodynamic signature, which is known reduce increase) sheared suspension, inverted upon emergence aggregation. Our results provide new insights role in complex environments, relevant synthetic well systems.

Rheology dynamics of aggregating colloidal suspensions.
We study a colloidal model based on population balances in the context of complex fluid rheology. Two typical particle microstructure kinetics, orthokinetic, collisions due to shear, and perikinetic, collisions due to Brownian motion, are found to appear at continuum as different flow behaviors - those having monotonic and non-monotonic flow curves, respectively. Solving the colloidal model tog...
متن کاملDynamics of confined suspensions of swimming particles.
Low Reynolds number direct simulations of large populations of hydrodynamically interacting swimming particles confined between planar walls are performed. The results of simulations are compared with a theory that describes dilute suspensions of swimmers. The theory yields scalings with concentration for diffusivities and velocity fluctuations as well as a prediction of the fluid velocity spat...

We develop efficient numerical methods for performing many-body Brownian dynamics simulations of a recently observed fingering instability in an active suspension of colloidal rollers sedimented above a wall [M. We introduce methods for large-scale Brownian Dynamics (BD) simulation of many rigid particles of arbitrary shape suspended in a fluctuating fluid. Our method adds Brownian motion to the rigid multiblob method [F. Balboa Usabiaga et al., Commun. Appl. Math. Comput. Sci. 11(2), 217-296 (2016)] at a cost comparable to the cost of deterministic simulations. We demonstrate that we can efficiently g...
متن کاملExtensional rheology of active suspensions.
A simple model is presented for the effective extensional rheology of a dilute suspension of active particles, such as self-propelled microswimmers, extending previous classical studies on suspensions of passive rodlike particles. Neglecting particle-particle hydrodynamic interactions, we characterize the configuration of the suspension by an orientation distribution, which satisfies a Fokker-P...
